2019 Paint Chip Quilt Challenge

Interpretation or theme is up to you – use your imagination!

The paint chips will be issued by SNMFQ upon receipt of the application. Quilts must have been made within the past year.  Quilts must be available for display from June 20,2019 through June 22, 2019.  By entering the quilt the exhibitor agrees to allow the quilt to be displayed for educational and promotional purposes. Quilts must fit within the size requirements of not more than 24 x 30 inches and have a 4-inch hanging sleeve attached.  All identifying labels will be covered prior to judging.  Written judging evaluations are NOT provided for this contest.

GENERAL RULES:

  1. Entry form and fee must be received by May 1, 2019.
  2. Entry fee is $10.00 per quilt, non refundable, to cover postage and handling– Checks made payable to SNMFQ
  3. Entry form must be completed for each entry
  4. Quilt is accepted unless you are notified otherwise
  5. Each quilt must have a color photo with it
  6. Each entry must be quilted and clean
  7. Quilts must have been made within the last year
  8. Each entry will be given 2 paint chips in an envelope
  9. Quilts must be made using colors of the paint chips with one additional fabric for continuity.
  10. Paint chips must be returned with the quilt entry
  11.  Quilts must be available for display
  12.  Quilts must be an original design and not a copy of previous work or a design by someone else without the express permission of the original designer
  13.  Quilts must be no larger than 24x30 inches
  14.  Each quilt must have a 4” hanging sleeve
  15.  All decisions of the judges are final.  Selection of the quilts will be based on piecing and quilting technique and theme interpretation.  Awards will be announced during the 2019 Southern New Mexico Festival of Quilts

HOW TO ENTER:

  1. Entry form can be found at www.snmfq.com
  2. Quilts can be mailed with a non refundable fee of $10.00 to cover postage and handling
  3. Quilts must be received no later than May 1, 2019.
  4. Insurance is the responsibility of the entrant
  5. When entering a quilt in this challenge the quilter agrees for the quilt to be displayed for up to one year.  All quilts will be returned by mail.

Prizes: Ribbons will be awarded to the top three quilts and honorable mention.

Written judging evaluations are NOT provided for this contest.

Join us at the Flickinger Center following the Festival for a concert by Ricky Tims.  Quilting is a relatively new interest compared to Ricky's lifelong passion for music. He is a pianist, conductor, composer, arranger, music producer, and performing/recording artist.

If you purchased Ricky's Sessions 1, 2 and 3 classes on Saturday, admission to his concert is included in the package.

2018 Southern New Mexico Festival of Quilts

Come be inspired, and share your passion and enthusiasm for quilting, while donating to a good cause!

Please join us in Alamogordo, NM for this much anticipated annual event, June 22nd and 23rd, 2018 at the Otero County Fairgrounds.

Classes will be held:  Wednesday, June 20th, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm; Thursday, June 21st and Friday, June 22nd, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; and Saturday, June 23rd, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Pam Holland returns and will bring new classes and inspiration. Sue Rasmussen, a well known diversified quilt instructor, will also share her expertise in the classes she is teaching. Ricky Tims, internationally renowned quilter and motivational instructor, will be conducting classes at our 2018 event. View Classes >

*Class participants do not need a ticket for entrance on day of class they are registered for.

2018  Bag Challenge

2018 Bag Challenge

Entry Deadline:  February 28, 2018  

"A FUN AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY FOR ALL"

CATEGORIES ARE:

YOUTH:  For ages 8 through 16.  No registration fee.

ADULT:  Ages 17 and above.  $5.00 registration fee.

GENERAL RULES:

  •  In order to participate, you must wear your handbag or back pack during the Festival and “PARADE OF BAGS”.
  • ALL BAGS MUST BE MADE BY THE PARTICIPANT AND SHOWN BY THE PARTICIPANT.
  • Your bag must include a patchwork and/or quilting technique. It may be a tote, handbag, or any bag design of your choice.
  • ALL BAGS MUST BE REGISTERED NO LATER THAN NOON ON SATURDAY. After registration you will be handed an identifying number which must be attached to your bag and worn at all times as a way to identify you.

THE “PARADE OF BAGS” WILL BE HELD AT 2 P.M. ON SATURDAY.  ONE WINNER IN EACH  CATAGORY (ADULT AND YOUTH) WILL BE SELECTED BY AUDIENCE CHOICE.  FESTIVAL ATTENDEES WILL VOTE FOR THEIR FAVORITE BAG OR BACK PACK.  VOTING INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE PROVIDED DURING THE FESTIVAL.
