Have you ever been to Tuscany? This is a small drawing I did when I was in Tuscany and you will trace it on fabric, stitch with black thread, and then color with pens and pencils. It’s different because I quilt first and then use pencils to color. However, there are a few tricks to using the pencil to make them permanent.
Location: Otero County Fairgrounds, 401 Fairgrounds Rd, Alamogordo, NM
Supplies Required:
• 1 reel of Aurifil 50 or 80 weight black thread.
• Thread to match the background of your quilt… for instance, I used cream on this one.
• Open toe embroidery foot for your machine.
• .5 black pigment ink pen. A Zig pen will do.
• Set of mixed size Schmetz embroidery needles…or alternatively a pick of 70/10.
• 1 fat quarter of light colored fabric for the background.
• 1 fat quarter of batting and backing.
• Set ink tense colored pencils.
• Small paint brush.
There are tiny details in this quilt, and as an alternative to Fabric pens I’ve been using Faber Castell artist pens mixed with Ink Tense colored pencils. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby, but they have them in Office Max. Anyway I will have some for you to try.
